The history of the First Haitian Church of God is indeed a memorable one. The church came out of the calling of God upon the Reverends Jean and Marie Vincent to lay the foundations of a Pentecostal ministry in the greater Philadelphia area. When they received the word from the Lord to move to Pennsylvania, Pastor Jean Vincent and his wife were already doing ministerial work in the state of New York under the supervision of the Reverend Honore Jacques then district overseer of Brooklyn, New York. With the God's help they founded and co-pastored churches in the state of New York.

       At a time when they were reaping the fruits of their labor, God gave them the vision to do church planting work in Pennsylvania. The First Haitian Church of God was founded in September 1978 and services were held in the Vincents' living room. After a year of tenacious labor, the congregation grew, and a store front was bought at 5528 Lansdowne Avenue. In 1985 the need for a larger setting became crucial as the church continued to grow.  Aware of the financial problems of his church, Pastor Jean Vincent, a prayer warrior and a man of faith, entered into a permanent state of partial fasting. After nine months of prayer along with the congregation, Rev. Vincent was pleased to break his fasting when the Lord allowed us to purchase the former Green Hill Building that housed a movie theater.

    The building was refurbished into a sanctuary, and remodeled to become a beautiful house of worship.
    No need to say that Philadelphia is proud to have such a beautiful jewel that has the largest seating capacity in the Haitian community. The church seats one thousand people.

    The church is trilingual (French, Creole, and English) We are indeed a diversified institution that ministers to people of various nationalities through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
